En ce début d'octobre (8), nous vous présentons trois miels que nous avons découverts lors de nos voyages d'été et cinq autres délicatesses de la nature de notre planète, contribuées par des amis, incluant un miel d'une région divine! Une invitée d'honneur pour cette dégustation, Marthe notre filleule.
As the leaves are turning to red in this early October (8), we introduce you to three honeys that we picked up during our summer holidays as well as five others from around the world, brought back by friends, including one from a divine location! Our guest of honor this time was our goddaughter Marthe.
1. St. Georges-de-Beauce, Québec

This multi-flower, very sweet honey gave us a multitude of flavors such as clover, evergreens, chocolate, caramel, plum and candy. It also had a long finish, normally associated with wine!!
2. Armagh, Québec

Nos papilles aujourd'hui ont savouré une douceur métallique! De plus, le doux chocolat, la pomme caramélisée, le fromage, le raisin, et un peu d'acidité ont été perçus. Une odeur est aussi ressortie, celle du chêne! Merci de produire ce petit bijou.
This honey from Armagh, Québec is probably the first honey that I started buying from a small producer on a regular basis. Not only is it delicious, it also gave me the great satisfaction of supporting a small town producer.
Our taste buds today got excited with a strange metallic sweetness! Also some sweet chocolate, caramelised apple, cheese, grape and slightly acidic tastes were noted by our tasters. We were also able to smell some oak with that. Thank you for producing this little gem.
3. Brantford, Ontario

Côté dégustation encore une fois nous avons eu droit à une panoplie de saveurs : tabac (pas la fumée cependant!), raisin, prune, caoutchouc, cuir, pain, fromage crémeux, amertume, fumier mais avec un délicieux arrière-goût de chocolat en finale. Fascinant dirait Dr Spock!
Again we visited a small local producer. So small in fact that during our visit the family was not present, but they had left a number of jars of honey outside their door. All you needed to do was to take one and leave your $10 in the money jar. Such faith in people is wonderful, Thank you.
On the tasting side we were again blessed with discovering many flavors: tobacco (without the smoke though), grapes, plums, rubber, leather, bread, creamy cheese, bitterness and manure! But a great chocolate aftertaste! Very fascinating, as Dr. Spock would say!
4. Naturoney, Sarrasin/Buckwheat, Québec.

Ce miel à fait l'unanimté comme le meilleur miel de cette dégustation. Si on pouvait mettre l'été en bouteille, on penserait à ce miel. Imaginez! Il était rafraichissant avec son goût de menthe, bois vert, raisin vert, poire, légumes et de chocolat de Pâques.
This honey was the unanimous choice for top honey on today's taste test. If we could bottle summer, we would choose this honey, imagine! It was very refreshing with its minty taste, green wood, green grapes, pear, vegetables and Easter chocolate.
6. Tuck's, Terre-Neuve/Newfoundland.

It is a rare moment when 5 people can detect the same flavor, but in this honey the pear flavor was really strong. There were also some apple and alcoholic flavors detected.
7. Bleuet, Alma, Québec. Blueberry, Alma, Québec.

Guess what! This honey tasted like, yep that's right, blueberry! But it also had some Clamato, apple, chocolate and grapes, as well as a rather concentrated leather smell.
8. Enfin la surprise divine, le miel des Hauteurs du Golan, en Israël.

Ok you have been waiting for this one, the heavenly honey from the Golan Heights, Israel.

La surprise, considérant la provenance de ce miel, est que le premier goût trouvé est un goût d'hostie! De plus nous y avons goûté le fromage et un léger goût terreux/sablonneux.
The first flavor was such a great surprise considering the origin of this honey: a host. On top of that we tasted cheese and a slightly earthy/sandy flavor.
